Humanities Essay 2012

1) Stop Motion
The stop motion assignment was assigned to the whole tenth grade. We were put into groups, and luckily, myself and another group member of mine were artistically creative in drawing and making things 3D. At first, the whole group was working well together, and we all were doing an equal amount of work. Nearing the end of the project however, some of my group members were getting restless, and my group member and I, who were the ones who were a little more creative decided to stay after school and finish the project ourselves. Overall, we ended up getting a grade in the mid 80's range, and Mr. Perry, my media teacher even said our Stop motion had an amazing 3D quality that moved so well, more so than any of the other groups in the tenth grade.

2) Humanities Essay 2013
My Humanities essay is one of the works that I am most proud of from this year. The humanities essay itself, was supposed to be written based on a book "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad. This book is a college level book, and the contents is very hard to grasp, especially for someone my age. Although we had guidance along the way about what a certain passage meant, we had to write on our own about certain discussion questions. 2/3 questions were fairly easy to answer, because they were text based questions. The question I chose was a question that required a lot of deep, philosophical thinking. At first, when I showed my essay to my teacher, she didn't quite understand what I was trying to get at. Once I read over it, I knew I wasn't pushing myself to my fullest potential. I tried harder to make my thinking deeper about the question "What is the Heart of Darkness?". In the end, I was satisfied enough with my work to have had received an 85 on my overall essay.

3) Humanities Essay 2012
The humanities Essay we did in 2012 was written based on another difficult book to read by the notorious Kurt Vonnegut. He is known for his book Slaughterhouse Five. My class was assigned to read this book. The book is based in different time zones because, Billy, the main character, constantly time travels. We don't exactly know why, but the book for me, was easy to understand. Even though this was the case, my understanding of the book was hard to put down in words, and in the end got me a bad grade. Maybe, this is because we were just starting to learn more about writing essays and formatting. I feel as if the "Heart of Darkness" essay, compared to this one is my strongest one, because Heart of Darkness is a vivid book. But I also feel as if my Heart of Darkness essay is stronger because the formatting of the essay wasn't specific which didn't restrict my writing as much as the Slaughterhouse Five Essay did. I'm beginning to learn as a writer that I do well in free areas because I've always written by myself.
